Unlicensed practice happens ALL DAY LONG in our Profession, in EVERY STATE.
We are changing that, starting with South Carolina.
SPA files complaints, so that you do not have to, as long as there is documented proof of the illegal activity.
Have you ever witnessed someone performing a service and notice that they lack sanitation? It happens way too much.
One way that we are fighting it is with consumer awareness thru PSAs.
No B4 U Go is a series of public service announcements geared towards educating the public, so that the consumer knows if a professional is performing proper sanitation & disinfection.
Last year SC Licensed Estheticians fought against the removal of makeup from our scope of practice.
The law did not pass, but the person promoting that has not gone away...
Should it pass in 2025, then ANYONE can apply makeup legally in SC with NO license at all.
SPA will not let that happen, thru education, we will win!
Salon Professionals Alliance, LLC is an association that Chesley created on 6.16.2020 after she witnessed yet another form of deregulation.
Deregulation occurs when the government removes our right to practice something from our scope of practice, or reduces our requirements for school or continuing education.
Deregulation is when we have been properly trained and licensed to perform a task and now we can't.
That is exactly what happened with Esthetics last year. Some of the services Estheticians performed have been "removed", as LL&R has enforced a new "interpretation" of exactly what we can do...
Watching Unlicensed & Unsanitary practice, and witnessing deregulation for the last 33+ years, she decided to do something about it.
Chesley has a background as a legal secretary and paralegal, before she came to this industry.
She opened up the gate for ALL CE Providers since 1996.
When she came in there were only FIVE Providers, and their company names were written in the law, as the ONLY CE Providers for SC.
Now there are around 80!
She also achieved getting legislation changed so that if someone has been licensed long enough, never let their license lapse, and have never been in trouble with the SC SBOC, they can be exempt from CE!
In the same law, licensees could attend Trade Shows for credit hours!
Those two changes infuriated other Providers, they wanted EVERYONE to HAVE to attend CE's in SC.
So yes, Chesley continues to make history.
Protecting the Profession, while Protecting the Public.
Protecting the Public, while Protecting the Profession.
